Visit the Michelin star restaurants in Palma de Mallorca
The Michelin Guide 2020 awards presentation ceremony took place last November, being the 110th edition of these important awards in the gastronomic world.
In Castell Son Claret, an ancient Mallorcan castle from where we can also enjoy wonderful views of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, we find Zaranda restaurant.
Zaranda is the only restaurant in the Balearic Islands that has two Michelin stars thanks to the careful selection of local products and aromas of the island, among many other things.
The chef, Fernando Pérez Arellano, has spent time in numerous internationally renowned restaurants which have enabled him to obtain the vision and experience necessary to create truly extraordinary dishes. Dublin, London, Naples or Barcelona are just some of the cities that enabled him to muster the courage to open up his own restaurant at the age of 27.
Zaranda opened in the San Bernardino neighbourhood of Madrid in 2005, earning its first Michelin star just one year later. Later, he moved the restaurant to Mallorca, where it earned its second Michelin star in 2016.
Another restaurant worth visiting is Voro which, in addition, got its Michelin star this year. However, for its chef, Álvaro Salazar, it is his third award from the Michelin Guide. Always with Mediterranean cuisine as a baseline, at Voro you can enjoy two succulent menus - voro and devoro - which are sure to leave you feeling content.
Born in Jaén in 1985, and after finishing his studies at the hospitality school of Cordoba, he spent time at various restaurants to build his knowledge and experience that would lead him to be recognised, in 2015, as one of the ten best young chefs in Spain and Portugal.
Later, he managed the Argos restaurant in Pollensa, where he obtained a Michelin star in 2016, until the beginning of 2019 when he left Argos to focus on a new project that he would also lead to success: Voro restaurant in Canyamel.
Adrián Quetglas Restaurant
In the heart of Palma, in Paseo Mallorca, you will be able to find this Michelin star restaurant named after its chef: Adrían Quetglas.
From a Mallorcan family, but born in Buenos Aires, he has been to Paris, London and Russia forming part of, and even managing, some of the kitchens of the highest international prestige including, for example, the Quo Vadis restaurant in London or the AQ Kitchen in Russia.
With a creative and careful cuisine and not exorbitant prices, those who have been lucky enough to try Adrián Quetglas’ menus highlight that in their tasting they were able to see the chef gives glimpses of his Argentinian origins, accompanied by Mediterranean flavours at the same time as noting his time spent in the different capitals.

Andreu Genestra Restaurant
In the municipality of Capdepera we find the Andreu Genestra restaurant, another Michelin star named after its chef and owner and located in a small rural hotel.
This Mallorcan started his career in the world of gastronomy when he began his studies at the age of 16 at the school of hospitality at the University of the Balearic Islands, to later work in the most luxurious hotels of the island.
He has spent time in different restaurants in Mallorca, Barcelona and the Basque Country to learn from some of the most prestigious chefs including Ferran Adrià and Marc Fosh. In addition, his career has also been spent in cities such as London, Paris, Moscow and Kuwait.
After enriching himself with the work and experience provided by the different kitchens he spent time in, in April 2011 he decided to open his own restaurant, the Andreu Genestra Restaurant in Capdepera where, 3 years later, he was awarded the Michelin star.
Es racó d’es Teix
This magnificent restaurant with excellent views can be found in Deià and is run by Josef Sauerschell, German chef and owner but in love with Mallorcan ingredients and cuisine.
After time in the kitchens of some of the most prestigious European restaurants, such as Four Seasons in Munich, the Berkeley Hotel in London and Le Manoir Saisons Aux Quatre in Oxford, Joseph Sauerschell became head chef for the first time in 1985 in the luxury La Residencia hotel in Deià, where he met the Maitre D and his future wife Leonor Payeras.
After working together for a few years, the chef's kitchen was awarded the Michelin star and later, in 1999, the couple were encouraged to embark on opening their own restaurant, Es Racó d’es Teix. After years of the couple's hard work, the restaurant received its own Michelin star in 2002.
Es Fum restaurant is a Michelin star restaurant in Calviá whose chef, since 2017, has been José Miguel Navarro from the Canary Islands. He has given his cuisine innovative touches that make the award that the restaurant received in 2011 stay within its power today.
The restaurant, which only opens in the evenings, offers a “Petit Menu” and a tasting menu. The menus don't explain what the dishes are like, just what ingredients they are made of, so that the diner’s surprise is even greater.
The chef’s experience has gradually built up with his time spent in important national and international restaurants, including Celler de Can Roca, chosen as the best restaurant in the world in 2013, or Aqua restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg, with three Michelin stars.
Maca de Castro Restaurant
If you are looking for a Michelin star restaurant in the Port of Alcudia, make sure you visit the Maca de Castro restaurant, named after its owner and chef (formerly Restaurante Jardín).
The Mallorcan, born in 1981, has always been linked to the island's gastronomy thanks to her family. After finishing her studies, she spent time in different kitchens to grow professionally alongside chefs like Andoni Luis Aduriz in San Sebastián or Willy Dufresne in New York, among others.
Always surrounded by her family and her team, she never stops researching and experimenting with different ingredients of the land to always give her dishes a traditional Mallorcan touch.
Marc Fosh Restaurant
Marc Fosh is the chef at this Michelin star restaurant in Palma, and he was the first British chef to receive a Michelin star in Spain.
Situated right in the centre of the city, the restaurant has tasting menus made with the best local products, that you can enjoy after strolling around the old down of the Balearic capital.
Although it is a Michelin star restaurant, its pricing is quite reasonable. This is why it’s advisable, as is often the case for this type of restaurant, to book a table in advance.
